Being a successful surgeon requires good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to consistently and confidently lead a team. I am a general and colorectal surgeon with over 20 years of clinical experience in both private practice and academic hospitals. Throughout my career, in addition to maintaining a thriving and busy practice, I have assumed key leadership roles in the hospitals I work at. These roles, such as President of the Medical Staff and Chair of the Department of Surgery involve managing hospital departments, physicians, and effecting change across the organization during times of flux and uncertainty, including 2 hospital mergers. I have also been extensively involved in teaching medical students, surgery residents, and family medicine residents over the years as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine, and have won numerous teaching awards for this. This involves distilling complex medical and clinical topics to a varied audience. I have also written numerous scientific papers and summarized scientific articles for the journal Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, and have been a reviewer for this journal as well.
